SPEECH TO NSW SECONDARY PRINCIPALS COUNCIL

FRIDAY MARCH 1, 2013

I will contest every cent of the Government’s $1.7 billion cuts.

And I will continue to meet with school principals, parents and teachers.

But in the end, my dispute with Mr O’Farrell is not just over a cut or an arbitrary dollar amount.

My dispute is over his fundamental lack of vision for our education system.

RAIL FUTURE CONFERENCE 2013

THURSDAY FEBRUARY 28, 2013

Public transport is a vital equity and social inclusion measure.

But the genius of public transport is that the benefits don't just accrue to users – they accrue to all of us.

Through positives such as reduced congestion on our roads. Increased productivity and economic growth. Urban renewal – communities that are more vibrant and connected. And reduced carbon emissions and noise pollution.

The best public transport systems work so seamlessly you barely notice them.

APOLOGY SPEECH DELIVERED TO NSW PARLIAMENT

THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 20, 2012

Today we must step forward and take responsibility.

This single barbaric act – fraying the sacred bond between mother and child – changed lives.
And in many cases destroyed them.

On behalf of the NSW Labor Opposition, I rise to join with the Government and say clearly and unequivocally, to all those affected by the policy of forced adoption,

We are sorry.

SATURDAY JULY 14, 2012

Twelve months ago I stood before you as the new Leader of the oldest and greatest political party in Australia.

I spoke to you about the heartache of losing the last election and the importance of learning from our mistakes.

I said for the sake of our party we need to regain the trust of the people of NSW.

After 16 months of Barry O'Farrell I'm convinced we need to do these things – not for the sake of our party, but for the sake of this state.

Budget Reply Speech

THURSDAY JUNE 14, 2012

In Opposition, Barry O'Farrell promised to restore integrity to NSW politics...

Instead, with just one 30 minute speech on Tuesday, his Government has torched its credibility. With a Budget built on broken promises.

A litany of deception that will not only decimate the already fragile trust in politicians – but also hurt hardworking people with severe job and service cuts... Cuts not broken down by department. Cuts that will menace the most vulnerable in the months and years to come...

The Premier has proven that he can't be trusted. At last year's state election, the Labor Party learnt the hard way what happens when you lose people's trust...

NSW LABOR HOUSING AFFORDABILITY SUMMIT

TUESDAY FEBRUARY 12, 2013

Even if you’ve made it in the property market, you worry about whether your kids ever will.

And let's not forget our homeless population and the massive waiting lists for social and community housing.

We're a property-driven society here in NSW.
